October Player of The Month

Yohan Hakir has been awarded the player of the month for October. Yohan has been totally committed to programme both on and off the pitch not only in October but thought the programme so far, and this has paid off in some great and consistent performances in the games this month.

Well done Yohan, very much deserved.

Andres Oper meets the team

Estonian international Andres Oper called into the programme today to meet the team and have a question and answer session with the boys. Andres, who will hopefully be playing in the Euro qualify er against Ireland in November, is currently in the UK to improve his fitness training with English clubs and hopefully find a club.

Andres was able to offer the team his own first hand advice and experiences on how to take every opportunity they have in football and how hard he had to work to gain a professional contract with his local club back in Estonian, before having to move away from home to follow his dream, something our team can relate too.

A great experience for the lads.

Three Weeks in and Looking Good!

Coming towards the end of week three here in Bolton and the lads are getting into the course well. We have some very focused students both academically and on the pitch, all working hard to develop and achieve.

Overall the lads are doing great and are becoming a fantastic team, working together and supporting one another. It's clear that it has been a shock to some of the boys on the pitch with the intensity of the training and the fitness element of the course, however already we are seeing improvements and seeing he commitment of the boys using the Gym outside of the timetabled slots.

At the Reebok, they have seen two premier league games, unfortunately still awaiting a Bolton Wanderers win, but after Wanderers win away last night in the cup, we are sure that will come soon.

The 2011/2012 season Kicks Off

This week is the first week of the 2011/2012 season here in Bolton for the edukick England & Bolton Wanderers Football Studies programme. What a great start for the lads, straight into the induction week at the Reebok stadium and pitch side on day one for a team photo in their new kit.

We have the highest number of starters this year, which will make it a vibrant and competitive programme both on and off the field. the lads have loads to look forward too, the first game this week against a Manchester college and then at weekend its Bolton Wanderers v Manchester United, and they will all be there at the live game. If you love football like these lads do - what better!

January Player of the Month

Miguel picks up the first player of the month award for 2011 with a great attitude and consistent on and off the pitch performance throughout the month. Miguel has returned from the winter break with a hunger to impress and succeed, leading the team as captain by example and achieving recognition from local sides including Preston once again.

Week 15 ends

Time is going quickly here in Bolton for the lads, already 2 weeks have passed in term two, with only 7 full weeks to go until the break. so plenty to do before them. This week has seen the first game of the term against Moorside Youth. the result didn't go our way, a 1-0 defeat, however it was the same old story. Most of the possession but just couldn't convert it to goals. The cold conditions have returned a little. For some of the boy, the first time they have played in snow, but we've had our successes already.
6 boy are travelling to Preston North End today to train with the centre of excellence, Michael, Freddy and Sam Zimmerman have trained with Rossendale United, Michael making his scoring debut for the first team, and 3 boys have trained with Flixton. So lots going on.
This term the boys will complete the FA level one course, the first step to being a coach in the game.
Monday Night it's Bolton V Chelsea, so all the boys will be there to cheer on the wanderers.

A Great Debut for Michael

After signing on for semi professional non league team, Rossendale United, only last Thursday, Michael Burgos had a great debut for the team at weekend, helping them to a 3-3 draw away from home by getting on the score sheet. Michael was introduced to the game in the 60th Minute and soon got into the game as the lone striker and was rewarded with a goal. This week, Michael and a few more of the Edukick England players will be training at Rossendale, with the hope of some more of them adding to the team.

Michael Burgos Signs For Rossendale

Michael Burgos, one of the Edukick England regulars has signed a contract to play with Rossendale United First team, in the North West Counties Premier League until the end of the season.

Michael joined Edukick England in September, hoping to improve his football and progress in the English game, seeing how far he could go. Last night was his breakthrough as after only two training sessions, one prior to the Christmas break and last night, he was offered a contract until the end of the season to play in the first team, and could even make his debut tomorrow away at St. Helens.

Currently Rossendale are struggling at the foot of the league and have seen the opportunity to strengthen the squad with Michael, and are currently looking at one or two further players from Edukick England. This is a great opportunity for Micheal to play with a semi-professional club in the English football leagues, the first step on the ladder of a possible career in football, and he needs to take the chance to impress.

The boy have a short term this term of only 9 weeks, so need to hit the ground running and get the most out of it they can.

Hi Everyone and a Happy New Year from Everyone here in Bolton. The snow is back, but only a light scattering, so hopefully no more disruption in the UK for the return of the boys this weekend.

Well Done to Samuel Zimmerman. The coaches has awarded Sam the player of the month for the last month of 2010 due to his great performances in games and training and continued hard work over the time.

Another International Call Up!

Here at Edukick England, whilst we have one player, Mohamed Hany, currently at his international training camp we are celebrating a further call up from the team.

Ramsay Boly has been called to the National pool squad in March, to train in Florida for the USA under 18's.

What a great achievement from the player who has only been here with us for 12 weeks now.

This month Fredrik Hoie has been given the player of the month for his outstanding work both on and off the pitch, and his fantastic performances in the past two fixtures. Freddy, a Norwegian lad, first came to Bolton in Summer 2008 for the fun summer camp. Since then he has worked hard and trained hard, following the exploits of the year long players until finally he came to join us here this season. And we are very pleased he did. Freddy brings a great attitude, and fantastic energy to the programme. This month he has earned the captains arm band for his work on the pitch and in training.

Today at the Bolton Wanderers V Blackpool fixture on the Reebok stadium the team were given a warm reception by the 25000 fans inside the Reebok at half time.

The Edukick England team were paraded round the pitch at half time with the skills challenge trophy following the victory against the skills team earlier in the term, and also to celebrate there efforts over the term.

Building a Team

Yesterday saw the lads away day, which was a trip to the Anderton centre for a team building session in the country. James & Stuart took the lads to the centre where they participated in various challenges ans team building games in the woods.

International Call up for Two Edukick Players

What a great week here in Bolton, the lads have worked hard in training and had a fantastic game at Chadderton FC, but Two players have been called to represent their national sides in the up and coming tournament in Africa.

Miguel has been called up to represent Namibia, this will be the second time and he'll be playing in the U 18's squad this December

Mohamed has been called up to play for Egypt U17's, at only 15.

Well done to both the lads and we will keep a track on the progress over the next few weeks.

A fantastically fought second half saw Edukick England back four and team as a whole soak up the pressure to end with a well deserved victory in Manchester.

Freddy stood out in the centre of midfield, Haedan Turner came on in the second half and showed what a great engine he has, Christian took on board what James had worked on regarding the pressure up front

All in All a great team performance and a great result for the team

Chadderton Town 1 - 2 Edukick England

The Edukick England team are performing well and are on top of the game, trying to gain control in the centre of the park, yet struggling with the bobble of the ball. The pitch isn't a pitch they can play their usual passing game. At that back there has been a few shaky moments, with the Chadderton team finding space a few times down the right hand side and being able to get the crosses in, however on loan keeper Jonny has kept us in front.

Edukick England went two up, firstly with a 30 yard strike from Freddy, then a goal from Christian after some fantastic pressure on the keeper. Just before the break Chadderton found the space again down the right and managed to get a cross in, after a penalty area scramble they managed to get a foot to the ball to poke it over the line.

Both Michael and Miguel have come close at the other end, and the Edukick lads are slowly settling to the pace of the game and the physical element.

Edukick England Ready to Kick Off

It's a cold evening in Manchester, and Edukick England have travelled to North Manchester to take on Chadderton Town U 18's under floodlights. This will be a great test for the lads. It will be a tough and possibly physical game on a very large, but uneven pitch. A massive contrast to the conditions of last weeks fixture at the academy.

Both sides have been out to conduct their warm ups and both teams look fired up for the game.

Edukick England are fielding a similar starting line up to the team that took on Bolton last week, with Seb Blades Sam Teame, Seb Farr and George Daka all sidelined for this one with injuries and various reasons.

5 minutes to go to kick off, what was great to see was the lads had brought their own motivational DVD following the lectures on positive mental attitude.

Edukick England V Bolton Wanderers

The Edukick England team got a great boost yesterday by being invited to the Bolton Wanderers Academy to take on one of their teams. The game, played on a fantastic show pitch at the front of the academy, was a great contest with two very strong teams showing some great skill. On a cold and very windy day in the exposed area of lostock where the ground is situated, the Edukick England team played what James Ward called, their best football yet on the course. The lads went into the break level at 0-0. The second 30 minutes saw the team take the lead with a goal from Centre Half, William Cunningham. Finishing the second 30 minutes in the lead, spirits were high and the standard of play from all was fantastic. They took the field for the final 30 minutes, and although kept up the fine performance, came in at the end 2-1 down, with two goals that came due to the pressure of not only the BWFC team, but battling against the strong winds for so long. Towards the end Christian came close to leveling the tie, as did Joao, however unfortunately didn't manage to level it.

The opportunity and performance showed how far the lads have come in the time they have been here, and to what a high standard they are and can perform at.

From this now they can push on to compete better when playing the colleges and local teams, in preparation for the next big target game.

EduKick England take on the Wanderers

Today the lads were due to have a fixture at the arena, however due to a down pour overnight the fixture had to be cancelled, BUT from the disappointment of that came a fantastic opportunity with Bolton Wanderers Academy asking for a fixture against our lads. So tomorrow (Tuesday) the team will take on the full BWFC academy at Lostock, the BWFC Academy ground.

It's a great opportunity for those selected to show off their talent and gauge the level at that top flight of football.

This is a target game, so the team are looking at earning a place in the squad for this fixture.

Edukick England V Manchester Tech College

Yesterday the Edukick England team travelled to the centre of Manchester to take on the technology college team. In a very wet and cold afternoon in Manchester the team struggled a little to maintain the pace and tempo of the previous games. As it was a development game, Coach James Ward had tried to change and adapt the way the lads played with a 4,3,3 formation, however it was soon clear that they were unsure with this formation so the reverted back to the 4,4,2 formation they were used to which showed with a change in performance.
the team came out 2-1 down of the game with George Daka scoring our only goal after converting very well ad bit of excellent play.
Fredrik put in a fantastic performance in the game earning him the man of the match title for the fixture.
plenty to work on, its helped to get the lads used to playing in the cold and driving rain here in England.
onto next week where conditions permitting we have already a very busy line up of fixtures, with a possible 3 games in a week.

Joao Get Player of the Month

Joao Pereira has been voted the Player of the Month for October by the BWFC coaches for his work both on and off the pitch. Joao, a Portuguese player arrived this year having had experience playing in Europe and the UK and has fitted very well into the team and the daily routine of the training. Joao has produced some very consistent performances in training and games which has earned him this months player of the month.

Edukick England 1 V Grand Skills Final 0

Edukick England have had a test this morning against the Grand Skills final players selected by Bolton Wanderers from around the world. This target game was a fixture that the lads went out to win and perform in.

In a tough fought game Edukick England dominated a large percentage of the play, however were struggling to take the chances up front, coming close on three occasions, but not getting on the score sheet.

Late in the second half, after several opportunities went a stray, Coach James Ward, move Jorgo Nika, the ID talent winner who is here for only a week, from the back up front, and within a minute Jorgo broke through the strong GSF back four to get the winner, with 3 minutes on the clock.

A great team performance by all, but a great finish from Jorgo who has fitted into the team well.

Winner of the Toronto Talent ID Camp Comes To Bolton

Jorgo Nika, the winner of the Toronto Talent ID Camp has arrived for his prise in Bolton of a week on the football Studies programme. Jorgo will follow the programme with the 20 strong team from Thursday this week until next Wednesday, taking in what it's all about and the tough training the lads go through. Along with this he gets the Chance to watch Bolton Wanderers V Liverpool at the Reebok stadium on Sunday, what a great experience.

Evening Meal With the Host Family

As part of Joey's trip to see the course, Joey Bilotta and Mick Brennan (EduKick England Director) made a visit to one of the host families, and the home of the welfare officer to meet three of the students, Meni, Fredrik and Samuel in their home stay environment. Whilst there we were able to see them relaxed having their evening meal and catching up with Stuart about their day of fitness with coach James Ward at the arena.

Joey Billota Visits Bolton

EduKick Inc VP, Joey Bilotta has made the trip from Canada to meet the boys, get some snap shots and see how things are going here in Bolton. Joey arrived here in Bolton on Wednesday evening heading straight to the hotel where he's secured a room with a view (of the Reebok pitch) fantastic for a football fanatic.

Thursday saw a day of meeting the lads and taking the time to chat to them, and a brief visit to a host family to get a feel for how things work this year.

So far it's been a great trip and Joey is looking forward to a double dose of premiership football with Blackburn V Chelsea on Saturday then Bolton V Liverpool on Sunday, however the EduKick England V the Grand Skill team on Sunday morning still is the most exciting prospect.

The Lads Work Hard in The Gym

Now to work hard on the fitness side of the course the coaches have the lads in the gym studio for various sessions including a demanding circuit training session. Here the lads are working constantly for a minute then moving on quick to develop not only stamina, but strength, endurance and core stability.

Along with this they have a run in the country on some Thursday mornings, with a tough print up the Rivington pike steps!

Edukick England V FC United

The lads had their first target game on Monday evening under the floodlights at Bolton Arena.

In a cold and very wet first half the lads got off to a bright start in the game, looking the better footballing team. Although they were on top the lads soon found themselves 2 down with 2 lapses of concentration.

The attitude of the team was excellent once again and heads didn't drop, just on the stroke of half time Miguel converted a well executed corner to get them back in the game, and give Miguel 3 goals in 3 games.

The second half was very competitive with both teams playing at a fast tempo right up to the final whistle. With the lads pushing hard for an equalizer they were caught out at the back right on the final whistle to concede a third.

Overall a great learning curve for the team and they can be pleased of the performance against a well established team, who are part of the break away club from Manchester United when the Glazers took over the club. Along with this a team that have been together for a few seasons and trained from early August.

Two premier League scouts were watching on and had some very positive feedback for James and the coaches, and have indicated they will be returning to future fixtures.

Another excellent performance from Miguel, and a 3rd goal earned him the Man of the Match award.

Settling in Well!

Moving into week 5 of the programme and the lads are settling in very well with the English lifestyle, and getting comfy, sometimes too comfy it looks like, with the host families.

Being in an English host family whilst on the course gives the players not only a safe and caring place to live, but exposes them to the English language and culture much more than any other experience. This is where we find that many of the players who have low levels of English can improve and come out of themselves with just interacting with the family.

Here you can see Steven Fong has settled in very well to the family life!

Miguel Gets first Player of the Month for the Season

Miguel has scooped the first player of the month award for the 2010-2011 season here on the year long football studies programme. Following a dedicated effort in all the build up fitness work and some fantastic displays in training and matches Miguel was unanimously voted by staff as the first to receive the player of the month.

Four Selected For Local team

Following a great performance yesterday in the fixture against Salford College, four of the Edukick England/BWFC international Academy players have been selected to train with a local semi professional team St. Helens this evening. This will give the lads the chance to show the manager and coaches of the team their talent, and could be the first step on the ladder to progressing in the game.

Well done to Miguel, William, Michael and Joao who all impressed in the fixture yesterday and will be going along to St. Helens tonight. Good Luck lads.

Edukick England V Salford College

A great start to week four here in England with the team getting to winning ways in a fantastic performance against Salford College in Manchester. Played in the glorious October sun, at the Manchester FA head quarters the team had a development game with Salford College, who are currently top of their college league.

The focus this week was possession, keeping the ball, keeping it simple and making play effective. And the lads did just that.

Coming out 3- 2 winners, with Miguel, Michael, and Sebastian Blades all on the score sheet they showed they are coming together well as a team and developing quickly as players.

As week three of the year long football studies programme comes to a close, and the lads look forward to a well earned weekend rest it's great to see that all the team are continuing to keep up the great effort and pace throughout the course.

Currently working hard in the classroom, many of the lads are already well into the first assignment for the BTEC, working on the Body in Sport module with the tutors which will help them in understanding how their body works and responds to the training and matches whilst here on the programme, hopefully helping them to avoid or minimise injuries.

All are on course for great results in the academic side of the programme, so well done to you all.

Edukick England V Manchester College

On Wednesday the team played in their second fixture of the course, a development game against Manchester College.

The lads showed themselves to be far the better side in the first half, taking the lead with a well taken header from Miguel. On the whole the lads showed great attitude and had plenty of opportunity to show their talent to the BWFC coaches and staff eagerly watching from the sidelines.

There were lots of positives from the fixture, with plenty to work on. This was a great opportunity for those new players to see the standard and physical fitness needed even at the college level here in the UK. The fitness of the the team showed towards the end of the game, however the lads represented themselves fantastically.

Week Two Training Kicks Off

Following a hard week of fitness and testing the lads got out on the pitch this week to start the training Programme with James Ward, course Leader and BWFC coach.

All the team were in good spirits and were please to get out with a ball to show their skills.

A fantastic team spirit has already developed with the group, which is key to their individual and group development over the duration of the course.

All the team on the edukick England Year long football studies programme got to see their first live premiership game at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton. And what a great start to watch Manchester United visit the Reebok. it was a great game with Bolton taking the lead early in the game and Manchester United just holding on for a 2 - 2 draw in the game.

this was a great result for Bolton who are now gaining momentum in the Premier league, meaning it will be a great season for the lads to follow the team.

All the team attending in the Edukick/BWFC tracksuits and looked smart as they were accompanied into the stadium by Stuart our welfare officer.

Lets hope Bolton can keep these results up.

A good Start to the Fixtures

Thursday saw the debut game for our Edukick England/BWFC international academy. On a very wet afternoon in Bolton the team hosted a touring team from Sydney, Australia as their first development game.

This was for the most of the group the first time they had actually played football in the UK, as previously this week it has been testing and fitness to prepare them for the season ahead.

it was also a chance to show Dave, international soccer schools manager, how they can play.

The aim of the development games s to put into practice the work in training and work on individual and team development, whatever the result. Dave had focused in the build up on quick one and two touch football, tempo of the players and attitude.

A all the lads showed a great understanding of this and performed well in this first test, finishing with a 1 - 1 draw, Ramsay getting our first goal of the season, and receiving praise from the opposing team who could not believe they had only met each other 3 days prior.

Well done lads, keep this up through the season.

Meni Gets another chance with Preston.

Meni, one of our students returning from the 2009 - 2010 season, has been given further opportunities to perform and showcase himself at the highest level. During the final term of last year Meni, along with 4 other players, were invited to train with Championship club Preston North End. During the time these lads impressed the coaches, however after returning for the final part of his time with us Meni has been asked to continue training, and this week has had the chance to train with the Preston youth team, with the head of youth development watching on.

It's a great achievement and fantastic experience for Meni and any player, and lets hope Meni can impress. He will return to training again this evening and continue this over the coming week.

During closed season Meni had a busy time trialing with a few semi professional clubs in the Uk, Welling & Wimbledon, and being offered places at both, however Meni made the decision to return up North to Bolton and give it a shot at a northwest club.

Day One 2010/2011

It's day one here in Bolton on the Edukick England & BWFC year long football studies programme. 14 of our new arrivals have started this morning on the induction week, with a further 4 or 6 to join in the coming weeks.

It's been a great day so far, we have a fantastic group of young people and are set for a good year.

Today the start of the full induction week has taken place, with the course information, kit, rules and guidance all being distributed.

Following what was long morning session in the Reebok stadium, the lads have had the first taste of the fitness required to play at a high level in England with their first fitness testing sessions on the track with Dave and Matt.

It's going to be a hard, but rewarding year for them all.

4 Weeks To Go!

With Only 4 weeks to go to the start of the new Edukick England 2010 - 2011 season it's time for all the players and students to start to prepare for the year ahead. We have an excellent programme planned for the coming year that will challenge, entertain and develop the players and students fantastically both on and off the pitch.

Through the new few weeks in the build up to the course the players will receive information and newsletters to introduce and prepare them for the year ahead.

Edukick England would like to welcome along all the new players and the parents of the players to the coming season and follow the progress here on our blog.

Week one will be a full induction and testing week, based in the Reebok stadium and the Bolton Arena.

Showcase Fixture 2010

Last night saw the 2010 showcase fixture where scouts and agents were invited to watch the lads in a game to show the talent. Host families also came down to support the lads and Shaun will go through the game with the lads on the DVD tomorrow afternoon.

All the team were kitted out in the BWFC home and away kits and the fixture was staged at the Niel Rouke stadium, home of non-league Woodley Sports FC.

The game was played in good spirits and was a great experience not only for the lads, but also the coaches.

Well done to everyone and thanks to BWFC for the kits and Woodley sports for hosting the fixture.

Training on the Reebok

Today the lads got a fantastic opportunity to use the Reebok stadium for the morning training session. All the lads were invited into the stadium by Bolton wanders for a two hour session, finishing with a game on the hallowed turf of the wanderers.

John Longfellow received fantastic praise from coach and course leader James Ward last Thursday by being announced as the Student of the Year for our course at the annual Bolton Wanderers Educational Programme awards.

On Thursday, as one of the educational arms of the Bolton Wanderers set up, all our players and staff were invited to attend, along with many local college who the club work with throughout the year. As part of this each year, Bolton Wanderers award one student per college for their efforts throughout the course as a whole, and this year, to recognise our link, partnership and the development of the course, Bolton Wanderers also included the award for our lads.

James had the task of looking at all the students and their whole performance academically and physically . It was a tough choice as we have many very committed and talented young men here on the Edukick England course, However John Longfellow stood out as a fine example of everything the course and programme is about. John has re-joined the programme after a short spell in the 2008/2009 season. Throughout his time here he has been a model professional and student. Always keen to learn, lend a hand and push himself to achieve.

A Hard Week Back

Following a two week break, and the Madrid weekend for some, the lads returned back to a week of hard work with the coaches to get them back into shape.

Obviously for some it took a lot out of them as Victor and Migeul had to catch up on some sleep in the car on the way to Preston - Ahh!

As last term came to an end, to players shone out for their work rate, performances and commitment to the course as a whole which earned them Player of the Month for the two squads.

John put in some fantastic and hardy performances in the games throughout March and led the back line tremendously. He has been throughout that month, but as a whole on the course so far, a model professional and very committed.

William's hard work and determination to learn has paid off with a fantastic month on the course and some fine individual performances. William continues to impress and develop on the course.

Warm up with Urawa Reds

As some of the lads build up to the trip to Madrid tomorrow, James arranged a pre tournament warm up game in Manchester against touring Japanese team Urawa Reds.

Urawa Reds, a professional team in Japan, bring over to the North West of England, 30 young players every year for the experience of English football, and each year our Edukick team have the opportunity to play them.

I a great game the lads showed how far they had come in the last two terms, with some great individual performances from Ryan, Kevin, and Victor along with great overall team spirit.

The result went Urawa reds way, 3 - 1 with the three goals coming to them from lapse in concentration, but something James is confident once they get out to Madrid they can rectify.

Wednesday morning See's these lads fly out for the weekend to join up with other international Edukick teams and local Spanish teams.

Players Come On Trial!

This weekend saw the player trial weekend for the up and coming year on the Edukick England / Bolton Wanderers Year Long Football Studies Programme. Lads and parents made the trip from all over the world to join some of this years players for the weekend in skills sessions, games, tours and to watch Wanderers take on Manchester United.

All the lads have done very well and are awaiting feedback from the Wanderers Coaches.

James ward, course leader and lead coach said;-

"These few that have made the big effort to come this weekend have all done very well, some may find the english pace and game a big shock should they relocate next year and join us, but all of them at first look would be a welcome addition to the course, so lets see how they have done when it's reviewed later in the week and good luck to them all, I hope to see some of you in September."

Dave and the wanderers coaches will now be meeting this week to discuss each player and give a little feedback and recommendations to the players and parents.

Skills Challenge

After a hard and long term, the lads relaxed a little this week when the BWFC film crew came in to shoot some film of training and a skills challenge. The film will be used at the tournament presentation evening in April which the team will be attending.

Past Players - Jack Colton

Over the past month we have seen stories from Ashley and Ebrahim and followed a little of their progress, next its Jack Colton. Jack was with us here in Bolton for the 2008/2009 year and had a year full of incidents and one he will never forget. Over the next month we will be questioning Jack on his time in Bolton on the Edukick/BWFC year long football studies programme and finding out what he is doing now.

Jack is an English lad, but prior to coming on the course lived in Dubai with his family. Out in Dubai he played a a semi professional level with a local club, but felt that it was fun, but had no potential to further his career. prior to going out to Dubai jack had played a little with Doncaster Rovers, and his old coach from the club had recommended the Edukick course as an option to assist him furthering his career. After looking into it, the course appealed to Jack as it enabled him to train everyday and improve his football, but also gave him the academic studies related to sport, which he felt was ideal and meant he could focus for the full year on football and sport that he loved.

So Jack signed up for the programme in 2008 and made the trip from Dubai to Bolton to start in September of that year, and what a journey it was that lay ahead for Jack, which we will find out about over the coming month.

Players and students from all over the world attend the programme each year to get the same experience that Jack and Ashley have had, and that ebrahim, along with many others are still having. Tournament in Preston

Both squads travelled to Preston college last week to take part in the annual college tournament staged by the BWFC coach development department. it was great to see all the lads from both squads together at one tournament, enabling them to cheer each other on. The games gave the lads that are travelling to Madrid next week plenty to work on in order to get in shape for the competition, however the B squad came out with the best result of the day, reaching the semi finals and only going out by one goal to the eventually winners. It was a great performance by the b squad lads, showing great commitment and drive and how far some of the players have come in the time they have been here. Well Done!

A tough and skillful performance in the middle of the park earned Nazar him 3rd man of the match this season.

Edukick England V Rivington & Blackrod College

The lads had a great win yesterday afternoon, at home to Rivington & Blackrod College. A mixed squad, with players from both A and B being involved, took on the college as a warm up match for tomorrows tournament at Preston, where we have both teams entered!

A shock in the first half saw the lads come in 3-0 down, even though they had the majority of the play and had created some great chances.

After a motivating team talk from James ward at half time, the lads went out and had a fantastic second half performance. A change of shape from 4.3.3. to 4.4.2, a focused team, not getting dragged into the rough battles from the opposition and more importantly a team that looked like they believed in themselves came back in style to win 4 - 3.

with two long range goals from Kevin Jeon, one well worked set pieces headed in by Jon Longfellow and finally a penalty taken by captain Ryan it makes it 4 games unbeaten for the A team with 22 goals scored.

Ebrahim, from the UAE, joined edukick England in September 2008. Ebrahim came to England a shy, quiet young lad nearly two years ago to join the football studies programme, and he hasn't looked back since!

Prior to coming ebrahim played with al Ain in the UAE. he'd always watch the English game and had visited the south of England on a previous occasion and had liked the experience. He was told about the Edukick England course by a friend and decided to check it out for himself!

in his first year here in England he studies the BTEC first diploma, along with supporting English lessons and successfully completed this and his FA level one, which, for a student with very limited English was a fantastic achievement.

This year, in his second year on the course he is concentrating on developing his English with inlingua Manchester, the partner English language school, alongside developing his football on the pitch. his communication on the pitch and with staff and friends ha dramatically improved over his time in England and will continue to as he has committed to more and more lesson over the coming weeks.

we asked ebrahim why he came to England and his thoughts on the course on the course:-

"I like English football, it's the best environment to learn and improve your game. Lats year was great, i met lots of fantastic people from many different countries and background, all with different skills and understanding of the game, this years just getting better. we have a great team here now who are all focused and committed to the football and coaches that push us to perform every session. I love England, I want to stay longer and would recommend this to anyone"

Over the coming months we will be following ebrahims progress on the course and his experiences.

Ashley Woodhouse, Why I came!

Earlier in the blog updates we reported about how well Ashley has been doing this season since he left the course in June 2009, training with Stockport County, so we caught up with him this week to find out why he attended the year long programme with edukick England and Bolton Wanderers. this is what he had to say:-

"during my school years football was my life and i had always had the passion to play football professionally at some level, it's all i ever wanted to do. through my younger years i had played with Macclesfield Town and Stoke City centre's of excellence, but like many had been released by these clubs before I could prove to them what a valuable player and goalkeeper i could be for them. I'd had a few frustrating injuries too as i went through trials with clubs, I'd been on trial with both Leeds united and Bolton wanderers prior to attending the course.

"i saw the course and saw it as an opportunity to learn more about the game, submerge myself in football everyday, develop my skills and live the life of training and working hard everyday, along with that they had the academic element to the course to enable me to study alongside the football, and i saw these benefits."

"the course meant that i could focus totally on my football development, move into a environment that supported my development and focus me away from the normal distractions of teenage life, and i think the year i had one the programme did just that for me!"

Ashley is now training everyday with league club stockport County, pushing for a contract with them, whilst still returning to the programme weekly to get game time and help out this years new players.

Next week we will find out Ashley's thoughts on the course and stories of his journey of the 9 months.

Past Player Mason

Mason Hampel joined the edukick England programme for a short time during the 2008/2009 season. mason, who had in the past been to the France and Spain programme edukick host, is now playing in Holland for GVV UNITAS. we caught up with mason earlier this month to ask him what his experience was like in England and why he has come, this is what he had to say:-

"i played in a tournament last year, for the edukick international team, along side some great lads from the Edukick England course, so i went to England to check out the edukick England course for a week and see some of the team. They have a great set up in England, with Bolton Wanderers. Edukick gives young players great exposure to the football world, if you are a talented player and want to be a professional footballer, I would recommend one of their program, although remember it's up to the player to prove themselves, Edukick are not giving away pro contacts, just a great opportunity to play and learn the game"

"I'd recommend edukick England or France, good luck to any players out there, go for it"

Easter in Madrid

With just over one week to go to the end of term two, all the lads are preparing for either a restful break back home, or to travel to Madrid to represent Edukick England. 14 of the lads have opted to stay with the team for an extra week to have the opportunity to go to play in an international tournament in Madrid. They will come up against teams from Edukick Madrid, DPS soccer, Canada, players from Italy and France and local teams from the area. lats years tournament was an inspiration for the lads, and this year, having our own team representing England should be a great experience.

James Ward and Matt are travelling with the team to Madrid and are as keen and hopefully as the lads that they can come home with the winners medals.

Welcome to the New Coach

The B squad have a new coach to drive them forward towards the end of this term and next. The new coach Shaun Couch, joins us to lead the B squad with experience of coaching at Blackpool football club and Blackburn Rovers Football club. As a university graduate from the university of central Lancashire with a BA (hons0 in sports coaching, along with his level 3 (UEFA B) FA coaching qualification, Shaun is perfectly placed to be involved and lead the B squad, not only bringing his coaching and leading experience, but his own personal experiences of progression through the football and coaching education system here in the UK.

We welcome him to the team, already Shaun has been involved over the past week with the lads and has formed a great relationship with the players.

Ashley's Success Story

Edukick England goalkeeper from 2008/2009 has a success story to share with you all, and over the next week he will be sharing his journey with everyone.

Here at Edukick England we are very proud of Ashley. Ashley spent a year on the Edukick England & BWFC year long football studies programme last year with only one goal in mind, to play football! And after an up and down year, with all the twists and turns that comes with the game, he's finally doing it.

Ashley is now training with Stockport County here in the UK, he trains everyday, and on a weekly basis mixes and is asked to train with the first team keepers.

Keep an eye out for Ashley in the English football League, soon you'll be hearing his name more and more.

Next week Ash will start to share his story with us, and for everyone wanting to pursue this dream

Roman Hits Five

Roman earned a well deserved man of the match after hitting five goals against Preston in midweek. Roman, who in the first term played at the back, has recently been moved forward as a striker, and tore apart the Preston back four, with lightening pace and superb finishing. Roman had hit 5 goals past the North end keeper, well before midway in the second half, and could have had more.

Well done Roman!

Squad B V Everton Development Team

On the same day as the A squads fixture the B squad hosted an Everton Development team at Bolton arena. Led by Craig, the lads had a shaky start to the game with the everton team putting 5 goals past them in the first half, however, with a weakened team due to some of the lads playing with the A team, and without an established Goalkeeper, the team held their heads high to come back in the second half with three fantastically worked goals, one supplied by Month long student josh and two scored by French student Hadrien. The game ended 6-3 to everton, however Craig took some real positives from the performances and the attitude and work rate of all the lads in the second half was first class, he's now looking forward to the next fixture with the fire service.

A Victory at Preston

Last week saw the A squad win a in tremendous fashion at Preston, 6 - 1. With the team now looking more settled and communicating well, the lads over powered the Preston scholars to the victory. We had a stronger team out, and in some positions older lads, however this as quoted by the Preston coaches was a good game for them to see how their young stars would hold up should they need to step up into the youth team.

Our lads were organised, competed physically and were fantastic in possession. they had come on leaps and bound from a few matches ago.

in front of player agents, club scouts and Jon Morgan from Edukick inc, the lads did them self proud.

Well done to them all, a great result, but more importantly a great team performance and some fantastic individual performances.

Offical Team Picture

Last week, during the visit by General Manager f Edukick inc, Jon Morgan, we had the chance to get pitch side to have an official team picture with all the lads. Unfortunately one or two were ill on the day so missed out, therefore a little later in the term we will have to try again. But most were there and don't they look good.

Not many lads get a chance to go pitch side of a premiership stadium for a team photo, so what a great picture for their files and memories.

Jon Morgan, General Manager of Edukick inc made the trip from Canada to See first hand how the lads were going on.

During his trip to the North of England, Jon had a chance to meet all the lads, take loads of pictures and videos, but more importantly see the one of the teams play in a fantastic victory in Preston.

Jon, as most parents and students know, is the first port of call in the booking and registering of the Edukick England/Bolton wanderers year long football studies programme. As our international partners, every year Jon likes to come to see the programme running, and this year saw the best year yet, with two busy squads competing and being able to be involved in this years team photo.

Jon & Joey from Edukick are both keen to see the lads again soon and will be in Madrid to see those who are travelling to compete at Easter.

Today, 6 of our year long football studies lads have been invited to train and trial with Championship club Preston North End.

Migeul, Ryan, Nazar, Shoki, Meni and William have all been asked to participate in the session following great efforts and performances in previous games and training.

Preston North End have a fantastic youth set up and have been linked with the Edukick England programme over the past two year, via fixtures, guest sessions and scout visits. As ever we always try to expose our players to English football as much as possible, and what a fantastic opportunity for these 6 boys to see how they fair against players of a high level, and to show their own talent not only to the coach, but to the head of youth development who will be watching on.

Good luck boy. They are just about to step out onto the pitch with the Preston lads.

Jonathan's Month In Bolton

Jonathan Holland joined the team for a month long programme during January and has fitted in fantastically. Jonathan has come all the way from Australia for the experience, leaving behind the heat of down under, to come and see what football in the UK is like.

Earlier today James, spoke with Jonathan about his stay and this is what he had to say

"I have enjoyed mostly everything about being here, the new experience, the training, the level of play, the everyday lifestyle, the people here and challenging myself against the older players. i really like this course and and the intensity of the training. we are assessed individually through tests and constant monitoring and i was able to gain feedback on performance. i like the whole experience of having football as my daily life and training everyday. And what a highlight watching the EPL games against Arsenal and Burnley. I have just loved the whole thing, I'd love to come back to do the full year course"

" I have learnt many things both on and off the pitch in my time here. Not only the skills and tactics, such as pressing, which we don't do back home, but in the lectures and lessons i have learnt about nutrition and flexibility to improve my game"

"life here in England has been very enjoyable, I have made many friends both on the course and outside of the course. I came to England and to the course to improve my football, play at a higher level and gain experience in another country. my idea to come to come here has been a big success and a very big accomplishment for me"

James ward, course leader and coach commented to us about Jonathan:-

"Jonathan has been a pleasure to have here in England for the short time he has been able to stay. he is keen and eager everyday to better himself which makes him very coachable and means he can develop quickly. in his time here he has developed a great deal with his fitness, skill and understanding of the English game. he has great understanding of everything we have worked on, but more importantly is a great lad to have around the place. We wish him all the best for his future and just hope to see him back here for the full year course, what an asset to the course and the team that would be."

Billal Gets Player of The Month

Billal has been awarded the players of the Month for the B squad, for January. His attitude on and off the pitch has been first class. He has returned after the Christmas break, fit, strong and athletic and has been consistent throughout the month. His efforts paid off when he was selected to play in the A squad for the recent fixture, where he played 45 minutes and had a great performance.
